The Constituent Assembly of India was formed to draft the Constitution of India. It consisted of representatives from various sections of society, including members from the provinces and princely states.

The members representing the provinces were elected by the members of the Provincial Legislative Assemblies. The elections to the Provincial Legislative Assemblies were held in 1946, and based on the results of these elections, the members of the Constituent Assembly from the provinces were chosen.
