The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was indeed adopted by the European Union (EU) in April 2016. It is a comprehensive data protection and privacy law that aims to protect the personal data and privacy of EU citizens. The GDPR replaces the previous data protection directive and provides a more harmonized and strengthened framework for data protection across EU member states. It came into effect on 25th May 2018 and applies to all organizations that process personal data of individuals within the EU, regardless of where the organization is located.
